What a waiter does

Waiters are the backbone of any seated event. A solid waiter brings: polished presence, service protocol knowledge, the ability to coordinate a section of 12–15 guests throughout the event, and polite communication including English for international clientele.

Standard responsibilities
Menu recommendation, taking orders, table service, pacing the meal, clearing, drink refills, guest assistance.
Core knowledge
Service protocols (à la française, à la russe, banquet, buffet); wine knowledge and standard pairings; HACCP and food safety.
Personal kit
Black uniform (trousers, white shirt, bow tie or tie), closed black shoes, apron — provided by the candidate or by the event depending on agreement.

Frequently asked questions — waiters

What's the difference between „ospătar” and „chelner”?+

In contemporary Romanian they are synonyms for the same person who serves food and drink at table. „Ospătar” is the official term from the national occupational code; „chelner” is colloquial.

What's the difference between a waiter and a runner (picol)?+

The waiter takes orders, advises, serves at table and handles payment. The runner (picol) supports the waiter: shuttles platters from the kitchen, clears, refills water and bread. At larger events (>150 guests) the typical ratio is 1 runner to 2–3 waiters.

How many waiters do I need for a 200-guest wedding?+

For seated service: 13–17 waiters + 5–6 runners + 2 bartenders. For buffet: 7–8 waiters + 1 bartender. See the ratio table above for other service styles.

How much does a waiter cost for a wedding?+

Between 350–650 RON for an 8-hour event, depending on experience. For longer weddings (10–12h) the rates scale proportionally.

How experienced are the waiters in your pool?+

All 120 active waiters have at least 2 years of experience validated by phone with previous employers. For senior roles (headwaiter, maître) we require at least 5 years and a practical test.

Do they speak English?+

Most have conversational English (required for 4–5★ hotels and corporate events). On request we can also filter waiters by language (English, French, Italian, German).

Can I book a waiter for a single day?+

Yes. Minimum billing is 6h (even if the event runs 4h). For under 4h, multiple waiters on the same day, or requests under 24h notice, rates may differ — we confirm at quoting.

I'm a waiter — how do I join?+

Sign up from the „I'm a candidate” page, fill in a short CV and your experience. We call within 48h for the verification interview. Registration is free.
